MARIE-FRANCE VEYRAT I JAIME DE LOS RÍOS
LA FORMA DE L’AIGUA
Memory tends to dissolve form, like water. In the drift of our most Cartesian thought, we tend to rationalize our memories by asking ourselves questions like: where? how? when? Calculable and direct data that, in most cases, reduces the lived experience to a list of elements. The works of the artist duo Marie-France Veyrat and Jaime de Los Ríos transform tangible memories into poetic elements, freezing moments and transforming them into eternal images. This installation uses physical sciences and technology to capture falling water and imitate its form using 3D printing. Thus, water no longer falls but becomes the language of dreams, quite the opposite of Newtonian laws, through real-time rendered algorithms that unfold choreographically in parallel with Marie-France's first-person narrative, who shares her voice to narrate a discovery.
In their joint work, Veyrat and de Los Ríos question the speed of consumption and the craving for newness in contemporary society, prompting us to reflect on science and technology through the contemplation and poetics of the instant.
